GENERAL QUESTIONS ASKED

How is each RLG piece made? What makes it unique from other jewellery brands?
Each RLG piece is hand-sculpted, carved and engraved in wax. It is then cast, using the lost wax process into precious metals – silver and gold. All gemstones are set after casting.

RLG specialises in bespoke jewellery design, so each piece has its own precious value and inherent beauty. Careful selections of gemstones and metal are made to suit each design. All RLG products are hand fabricated in Melbourne, Australia. There is no overseas manufacturing or production.

What types of metals do you work with?
RLG casts in 9ct, 14ct and 18ct yellow, rose and white gold, as well as 925 sterling silver. Please note gold prices are subject to change due to daily market fluctuations.

RLG also fabricates in sterling silver, with a gold plate finish. Please note: this is a surface treatment only. It does wear off over time. The timeframe for this varies from customer to customer, depending on wear and care.

We recommend you don’t wear gold plated pieces in water. Pieces can be re-plated on request with an applied fee. However, If you want a permanent gold, please order in 9ct/14ct/18ct gold.

What types of gemstones do you use?
RLG works with a range of beautiful precious gemstones including diamonds, sapphires, and rubies. RLG also uses a wide variety of semi precious gemstones including alexandrite, tourmaline, amethyst, aquamarine, citrine, topaz, morganite, garnet, mint/lemon quartz, peridot, spinel.

RLG does not work with turquoise or any other semi-precious stones as they are not hard enough to withstand everyday wear.  All gemstones incorporated into RLG designs are of a high grade, certified and purchased through reputable gem merchants.

BESPOKE/CUSTOMISATION

Do you make custom pieces?
Yes! RLG specialises in bespoke/custom made pieces of jewellery that are made in a wide range of metals and gemstones. Please enquire through the weddings & bespoke or via the contact page for more information on bespoke designs and orders. All RLG products can be customised.

Can I incorporate my own gold into a custom piece?
Generally, it it is not possible to incorporate the metal from vintage jewellery directly into a custom piece because it is very difficult to verify the quality of the gold in pieces. A mixture of uncertain metal identification will significantly degrade the structural integrity of the piece, therefore it is preferable not to incorporate vintage gold.

Can I incorporate an inherited or vintage stone into a piece?
Yes! It is wonderful to be able to use inherited and heirloom gemstones. Although it will need to have approval, based on its exiting qualities, and the design specifications for the desired outcome. It will need to be of a high grade and quality for it to be incorporated adequately into the design. If you have GIA certificate, please forward it through the contact page.

Do all pendants include a chain too?
Yes, all pendants are sold with chains. If you think you like to specify a longer or shorter chain, please request it through the contact page when you place your order.

SIZING

How do I find my correct ring size?
RLG suggests you go to a reputable jeweller and have them size your finger professionally if possible. Please avoid using home techniques or other existing rings. If your purchase is for a gift or surprise gift/proposal, please refer to the sizing notes below.

It is also recommended that you have your fingers measured a few times. Finger sizes vary slightly throughout the day and in different weather conditions, so judge the sizing by what you generally feel comfortable wearing. RLG uses AUS sizing standards, but can make a conversion for US and UK sizing.

What if I get my ring size wrong?
If you order the wrong size, don’t worry! We understand that purchases are often made for a special gift or surprise/proposal. If the design can be resized, RLG will resize it for a minimal fee of $50–80 depending on metal and sizing alteration, plus shipping. Please get in touch via the contact page within 7 working days of receiving your order if this is the case.
